In an exciting venture, Humboldt Seed Company (HSC) has joined forces with Pure Jamaican at GI Life Farms, based in Montego Bay, for an innovative cannabis project. This collaboration aims to produce cannabis seeds tailored for on-island sales, export, and research and development purposes. The partnership brings together expertise from HSC, Pure Jamaican, and key figures such as Ed Rosenthal, Master Grower, and Dr. Machel Emanuel, Principal Investigator of the Life Sciences Cannabis Research Group at the University of the West Indies (UWI).
A significant player in this collaboration is Ben Lind, Chief Science Officer at HSC. Lind is actively involved in the initiative to modernize pure Caribbean Sativa genetics. This involves trialing crosses of the classic HSC Northern California genetics with the objective of creating strains that are specifically adapted to the unique and challenging Caribbean growing climate. The project encompasses not only the advancement of genetics but also crucial research and development efforts to enhance cannabis cultivation in the region.
An essential aspect of this collaborative effort is the close partnership with the Trelawny Maroon Tribe. By involving the local community, HSC emphasizes a collaborative and inclusive approach, ensuring that the project respects and aligns with the cultural context of the region. This partnership extends beyond cannabis cultivation, as evidenced by Tyrone Alleyne of Pure Jamaican donating soccer balls to a local Jamaican school, showcasing a commitment to community engagement.
The Humboldt Seed Company’s Jamaica Project signifies a forward-thinking endeavor that combines expertise from different realms to advance cannabis genetics, research, and cultivation practices in the Caribbean. The collaboration’s multifaceted approach reflects a dedication to innovation, sustainability, and community involvement.
