Ingredients

  • 1 cup Honey raw, unfiltered
  • 1 gram Cannabis fower your favorite strain

Equipment

  • 1 Baking tray
  • 1 Sheet of parchment paper
  • 1 Double boiler or small pot and heat-safe bowl
  • 1 Cheesecloth or fine mesh strainer
  • 1 Kitchen thermometer
  • 1 Glass jar with a lid
  • 1 Wooden spoon or silicone spatula
  • 1 Grinder

Method

  1. To decarb your cannabis, preheat your oven to 245°F. Grind your cannabis flowers into small, even pieces. Spread it on your baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 30-40 minutes, stirring once halfway through. This activates the THC, CBD, and other cannabinoids so they can infuse into the honey.

  2. If you don’t have a double boiler, fill a saucepan with a few inches of water and place a heat-safe bowl or second pot on top to create a double boiler. Keep the heat low, maintaining a gentle simmer.
  3. Add your raw honey to the top bowl, then slowly stir add the decarbed cannabis while stirring. Use about 1 gram of flower for 1 cup of honey as a starting ratio, and adjust based on your desired potency.
  4. Let the mixture warm over low heat for 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally. Keep the temperature below 200°F to avoid degrading the cannabinoids or burning the honey.
  5. Remove from heat and let the mixture cool slightly. Pour through cheesecloth or a fine mesh strainer into a clean glass jar. Squeeze or press gently to extract all the honey; just be careful not to wring the cheesecloth too hard, or you’ll get plant matter in your final product.
  6. Seal the jar, label it with the date and strain, and store it in a cool, dark place. Your weed-infused honey is now ready to use in tea, on toast, or by the spoonful. As always, we recommend starting small and waiting before taking more.

FAQ

Does cannabis infused honey spoil?

Similar to regular honey, cannabis-infused honey has a long shelf life as long as it’s stored properly. Keep it in an airtight container in a cool, dark place to prevent moisture and light exposure, which can degrade both the cannabinoids and the honey itself. While honey doesn’t technically spoil, it can crystallize over time (which is normal) or ferment if contaminated with moisture. Always use clean, dry utensils when scooping to keep your infusion fresh.

How long does cannabis honey take to work?

Like most edibles, weed honey can take anywhere from 30 minutes to two hours to kick in, depending on your metabolism, dosage, and whether you’ve eaten recently. Start with a small amount and wait at least an hour before going back for more. Effects tend to last longer than smoking or vaping, about 4-6 hours or more.

Can bees make honey from weed?

No, bees can’t produce THC-infused honey naturally. Cannabis is wind‑pollinated and doesn’t produce nectar to attract bees, so honey bees can’t gather the sweet liquid needed to make honey from it. While bees may collect pollen or even resin from cannabis, this won’t result in psychoactive honey.

What does cannabis honey do?

Depending on the strain used and your tolerance level, THC-infused honey may produce a calming, euphoric, or body-relaxing experience. Some people use it to help wind down, spark creativity, or enhance a cup of tea before bed. The effects are similar to other edibles: slower to kick in, but often longer lasting. As always, start small and give it time before deciding how it’s working for you.

What’s delta-9-THC honey?

Delta-9-THC honey, also known as “D9 THC,” is a type of infused honey made with the cannabinoid known for producing the classic cannabis “high.” It’s either crafted by blending honey with extracts from industrial hemp or cannabis plants, depending on the legal regulations in your area. Some products also include other cannabinoids, like 500mg CBD, to create a more balanced or calming experience.

Is cannabis honey safe for everyone?

Cannabis-infused honey, whether it’s CBD-infused honey or made with THC, isn’t recommended for everyone. People with certain medical conditions, those who are pregnant or breastfeeding, or anyone with concerns about cannabinoid use should consult a healthcare provider before consuming.

Warning: Consuming this product during pregnancy exposes your child to cannabis, which may affect your child’s behavior and learning ability. Even small amounts may have long-term impacts, so it’s best to avoid use during pregnancy or when breastfeeding. And while raw honey has its own health benefits, combining it with cannabis requires thoughtful handling and storage to preserve both potency and quality.
