How to Make the Best Cannabis-Infused Snickerdoodles for the Holidays

Snickerdoodles are the type of sweet treat that just feels like a hug. They’re simple and nostalgic, and with baking season in full swing, they’ve been on the mind.

This infused version gives the classic cookie a modern twist: the same soft, pillowy texture and warm cinnamon-sugar crust, but with a mellow, long-lasting cannabis kick. It’s the perfect balance of tradition and elevation: ideal for cozy nights in, small gatherings, or gifting for a Christmas care package.

Snickerdoodles: A brief history

Snickerdoodles likely trace back to German or Dutch immigrant baking traditions. Some food historians believe the name comes from the German word “Schneckennudeln” (a type of cinnamon roll), while others insist it’s an old-fashioned New England nonsense word: a playful term bakers commonly used.

Regardless of its origin, the cookie truly found its home in the United States in the 1800s. By the early 20th century, snickerdoodles were a staple in holiday cookbooks, community bake sales, and family recipe boxes.

Why infused snickerdoodles?

Edibles bring a few benefits that smoking and vaping might not always provide:

  • Long-lasting effects

Perfect for extended holiday gatherings, craft nights, or winding down after hosting.

  • No smoke

Consuming via your holiday cookie is easier on the lungs, which is why many people reach for edibles over smokables.

  • Easy to dose

Once you know your cannabutter’s potency, you can customize your cookies to be mild or strong.

  • A festive twist on a familiar dessert

Even people who “don’t usually eat edibles” are tempted by a warm cinnamon cookie!

Remember: Always label your infused treats clearly and keep them out of reach of kids, pets, and unsuspecting guests.

Before you bake: Start with good cannabutter

The foundation of these infused cookies is some good cannabutter, so the first thing you’ll want to do is make a batch. Check out our full guide on how to make easy, extra potent cannabutter.

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients
  • 2 ¾ cup purpose flour
  • 1 ½ tsp cream of tarter
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ¾ tsp sale
Wet Ingredients
  • ½ cup cannabutter, softened adjust infused-to-non-infused butter ratio depending on potency preference
  • ½ cup ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
Cinnamon-Sugar Coating
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 ½ tbsp cinnamon

Equipment

  • 1 baking sheet
  • hand or electric mixer
  • parchment paper
  • 2 Mixing bowls

Method

  1. Preheat and prep.
Heat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line your baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Cream the butters and sugar.
Beat the cannabutter, regular butter, and sugar together for 3-5 minutes on medium. This creates the base texture: light, fluffy, and ready to hold that signature cinnamon coating.
  3. Add eggs and vanilla.
Add the eggs one at a time, then mix in the vanilla. The dough should look silky and pale.
  4. Mix dry ingredients separately.
In a new bowl, whisk together the flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Combine wet and dry.
Fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until a dough forms. Stop mixing as soon as the flour disappears.
  6. Roll and coat.
Combine cinnamon and sugar in a small bowl. Scoop dough into 1-1.5 tbsp balls, then roll each ball thoroughly in the coating.
  7. Bake.
Place on baking sheets with room in between balls. Bake for 8-10 minutes, removing them when the edges look set and the centers still look soft.
  8. Cool and serve.
Let them cool for at least 10 minutes on the sheet before moving. This also helps the cannabutter redistribute evenly.
  9. Enjoy!

Dosing and safety FAQ

How strong will these cookies be?

It depends on how potent your cannabutter is. You can always consult this guide for dosing tips.

How long do infused cookies take to kick in?

Typically 60-120 minutes. To be safe, start with no more than one cookie (or better yet, a half), wait at least 90 minutes, and avoid redosing too soon.

How do I store infused cookies safely?

  • Always label them clearly (THC-infused, adults only)
  • Store in an airtight container
  • Keep away from kids and pets
  • Freeze for long-term storage (up to 3 months)

What if I want stronger or weaker cookies?

You can adjust:

  • The amount of cannabutter
  • The ratio of infused butter to regular butter
  • The number of cookies (more cookies = lower mg each)
