Located in the Fira de Cornellà, Barcelona, Spannabis 2025 has again proven why it’s been one of Europe’s can’t-miss cannabis expos. Over three action-packed days, the city became the epicenter of the global cannabis industry, attracting thousands of enthusiasts, entrepreneurs, and cultivation experts. This year’s event had everything from cutting-edge technology to groundbreaking genetics. Let’s check out some of the biggest highlights.

Drenched, High, and Ready to Go

This year, Spannabis faced torrential rain and long queues that tested everyone’s patience, with nearly an hour passing before eager visitors and professionals could step inside the expo halls on Friday morning. Despite the delays, the excitement in the air was undeniable.

Entering the lively outdoor plaza, the unmistakable aroma of cannabis was everywhere. Visitors strolled through the energetic crowd, smoking joints and using vaporizers. Vibrant dabbing setups glistened on tables, and cheerful mascots from popular cannabis brands interacted with attendees, enhancing the festive atmosphere. This event marks the final Spannabis in Barcelona before it relocates to Bilbao in the northern province of Biscay.

Walking Through the Halls

The atmosphere buzzed with energy as visitors wandered through expansive halls filled with seed banks showcasing an array of innovative genetics. Booths were adorned with eye-catching displays, highlighting new and unique strains that promised to push the boundaries of flavor and potency.

Multiple vendors showcased an impressive selection of CBD flowers, reflecting the growing popularity of hemp-derived products in 2025. Alongside the flowers, an eclectic range of cannabis paraphernalia was available, from rolling papers to intricately designed glass bongs and sophisticated vaporizers.

What I found amazing was the abundance of free merchandise everywhere, including autoflower seeds, nutrients, and all the vital supplies for home growing. There were also a variety of competitions and games at stands, ensuring visitors could walk away with some great freebies. It was fantastic to see so much generosity—it added to the experience and made the event even more enjoyable for everyone.

Undoubtedly, one of the highlights of Spannabis was the chance to connect with your favorite breeders. The atmosphere was electric as visitors navigated through the exhibition halls, eager to engage with industry icons like Ed Rosenthal, a groundbreaking cannabis cultivator, and Jorge Cervantes, a passionate author known for his comprehensive grow guides that continue to inspire growers worldwide.

For cultivators like Konstantin Poerschke, a researcher from Humboldt University in Berlin, attending Spannabis is an incredible experience.

“The Expo offers a unique opportunity to connect with the community, share photos, and exchange valuable cultivation tips,” said Poerschke. “Growers showcase diverse methods; whether they harvest a kilogram in their backyard or achieve one pound from an autoflower in rockwool, it’s inspiring to see the plant’s potential.”

For photographers such as Kandid Kush, renowned for his stunning macro images of the cannabis plant, the event holds deep significance.

“Attending this event is always a remarkable experience, filled with warm welcomes and the chance to discover something new,” said Kush. “While cannabis sales are not permitted, Spannabis remains a grower’s dream, offering opportunities to explore the latest cultivation technology and connect with both renowned geneticists and small breeders.”

The Newest Cannabis Genetics Unveiled at Spannabis

The crowd buzzed with enthusiasm, eager to learn about the latest releases, and the Humboldt team was ready to share expert tips and answer questions, particularly about the benefits of triploids. These unique cannabis hybrids have three sets of chromosomes, differing from the typical two sets in standard hybrid varieties. This triploid structure contributes to remarkable characteristics, including enhanced levels of cannabinoids and terpenes.

The OG Triploid Auto, the world’s first triploid autoflower, captivated the cannabis community with its remarkable resilience and growth traits. This unique strain’s genetic makeup ensures consistent yields and high cannabinoid levels, boasting a THC content of up to 30% and a life cycle of up to 100 days. Its rich, earthy aroma, with hints of pine and citrus, delivers uplifting effects that ease stress and spark creativity, making it a favorite among growers.

Benjamin Lind, chief science officer at Humboldt Seed Company, expressed his excitement about the groundbreaking achievement in creating the world’s first triploid autoflower variety.

“After a solid four years of research and experimentation, we are excited to release this OG triploid autoflower strain, which will allow outdoor growers to compete on more even footing with indoor cultivators,” said Lind. “When grown outdoors, the OG Triploid Auto ends up looking like it was grown under mixed light or indoors.”

The impressive collection of both feminized and autoflower strains quickly sold out amid the excitement. Chicken n’ Wafflez, a feminized Indica-dominant hybrid, captured the attention of cannabis enthusiasts with its unique blend of Jelly Donutz #117 and Purple Cartel, resulting in frosty buds that can reach over 30% THC. This strain is perfect for those who appreciate a bold terpene profile with sweet and savory notes.

“The [Chicken’ n Waffelz] strain was a standout phenohunt winner from a few years ago and boasts an enticing aroma reminiscent of maple syrup, paired with delightful hints of baked goods underneath,” said Lind. “There’s also a unique, salty-savory vibe that represents the chicken aspect of it.”

Moon Fog provided an uplifting euphoria with its bright citrus aroma and short flowering time, perfect for those short European summers.

“The name comes from a collaboration between Humboldt Seed Company and the film ‘The Beach Bum,’ which features Snoop Dogg and Matthew McConaughey,” said Lind. “ In the movie, Snoop refers to McConaughey’s character as Moon Dog and frequently says, “He’s lost in the Moon fog, lookin’ for the Moon Dog.”

Cultivating Connections at The Booth

“Guru of Ganja” Ed Rosenthal is a renowned author known for his influential Growers’ Handbook. At Spannabis 2025, he warmly engaged with fans at the Humboldt booth, signing copies of his books and sharing his extensive knowledge about sustainable growing practices. His commitment to cannabis advocacy and horticultural expertise have motivated many cultivators worldwide to grow their own cannabis at home.

The Mendo Dope Boys, founded by brothers Old E and Bleezy, showcased their passion for original Northern California genetics and cannabis culture. They actively engaged with fans, shared their expertise, and emphasized their commitment to educating others about sustainable cultivation practices. They also energized the crowd with a set dedicated to Frenchy Cannoli, further strengthening their connection with the European weed community!

“Bringing our genetics to the cultivators in Europe felt incredible and exciting,” said Bleezy. “The vibes in the booth with the Humboldt crew were amazing, and performing on the main stage was a dream come true. We felt this was all meant to be, and the stars aligned perfectly. We were honored to perform our new song dedicated to Frenchy, ‘Ooh La La,’ and hearing the crowd sing along with us was the dopest feeling.”

At the Humboldt booth, Ridgeline Farms highlighted their family-run operation led by Jason Gellman, a seasoned cultivator with over 17 years of experience growing organic cannabis oudoors. Ridgeline presented its award-winning strains, including Green Lantern and Ridgeline Runtz. At the other side of the booth, John Casali from Huckleberry Hill Farms chatted with attendees about his award-winning genetics, emphasizing his acclaimed, three-time Emerald Cup-winning White Thorn Rose strain

Home Grow TV, an engaging media platform dedicated to educating and inspiring cannabis enthusiasts about home cultivation, greeted fans and connected with the European cannabis community. Led by Canadian filmmaker Dakota McLearn, who merges his passion for hobby growing with his filmmaking, and Mr. Q from Belgium, the web series offers high-quality grow tutorials and cultivation reviews.

“Spannabis 2025 wasn’t just another cannabis event; it was history in the making, said McLean. “The last one in Barcelona? That made it legendary. This year felt like a massive global family reunion, where the smell of terps hit you before you even got through the gates. For me, Spannabis is where internet friends become real-life homies. It’s where I get to shake hands with the breeders behind the fire and swap grow tips with people from all over the world.”

The Latest Innovations Unveiled at Spannabis

The vibrant atmosphere highlighted cutting-edge innovations in cultivation, extraction, and product development, reflecting the industry’s rapid growth and focus on efficiency, sustainability, and quality. Over the course of three exhilarating days, I found myself particularly drawn to four standout companies that captivated my attention amidst the dynamic expo.

Puffco

Puffco is well-known in the cannabis community, and as always, the booth at Spannabis was crowded each day of the expo. Since its founding in 2013, the brand has transformed the concentrate vaping experience with innovative products like the Puffco Peak and Proxy. These advanced devices boast sleek designs and cutting-edge heating technology, offering enthusiasts a clean, flavorful, and convenient alternative to traditional rigs.

The Puffco Pivot stands out as the ultimate portable vaporizer, offering the whole Puffco experience in a compact, pen-sized design. Its quick-release 3D Chamber ensures premium flavor and precise temperature control. With a light bar acting as a visual dab timer, haptic feedback for ease of use, a simple single-button interface, and four adjustable heat presets, the Pivot delivers a versatile and exceptional dabbing experience you can take anywhere.

Garden High Pro

Garden High Pro is a well-respected brand specializing in high-quality hydroponics and indoor gardening products. Established in 2013, it serves both amateur and professional growers. Its extensive range of innovative equipment, including grow lights and ventilation systems, is essential for anyone seeking reliable solutions for successful indoor gardening.

After exploring a multitude of grow tents for indoor cultivation, the PROBOX OUTDOORPRO caught my attention. This grow tent is specifically designed for balconies, terraces, and areas sheltered by eaves, enabling users to harness natural light efficiently while reducing energy costs. Its universal sizing allows growers to utilize the same materials as indoor grow tents, making it a highly adaptable option for outdoor cultivation.

SANlight GmbH

SANlight GmbH specializes in advanced LED lighting solutions tailored for both commercial cannabis cultivation and hobby growers. With a focus on efficiency, SANlight has years of horticultural experience alongside expertise in photonics and semiconductor technology.

The EVO 4-120 caught my eye at the booth, and it’s truly a game-changer for growers. It provides 725 µmol/s output with only 265 W, making it both efficient and cost-effective. Its advanced secondary optics and 11° tilt ensure even light distribution across a 10-square-foot (1.2×1.2m) area, eliminating hotspots for uniform growth. The dimming feature allows for customized intensity, making it ideal for each stage of plant development.

”Spannabis is always a highlight for us,” said Pascal Lässer, digital marketing manager at SANlight. “It marks the start of our trade show season, and we value the energy and global spirit of the event. It’s one of the rare opportunities where the entire industry comes together in one place. We love the chance to connect with growers, partners, and innovators from all over the world, all in a super positive and passionate atmosphere.

World Cannabis Conference 2025

This year’s conference sessions featured many thought-provoking discussions on legislation, sustainability, and medical cannabis. Leading experts shared insights on the evolving legal landscape and the industry’s future. Attendees explored the cultural impact of cannabis in the cinema of the ‘80s and gained insights into the importance of female representation in the ever-growing cannabis industry through the “We Are Women in Cannabis” panel.

Saturday built on this momentum by addressing the challenges of safe cannabis use. Renowned speakers, including José Carlos Bouso and Núria Calzada, examined how societal perceptions and governmental actions have shaped cannabis regulation. Participants also delved into Spain’s medical cannabis journey and the legal implications of growing cannabis from seed to harvest, enhancing the understanding of home growing.

The International Cannabis Awards and Spannabis Champions Cup

The International Cannabis Awards, held annually during Spannabis, celebrated the pinnacle of excellence in the cannabis industry. With a shift to an online format, industry leaders, enthusiasts, and advocates gathered virtually to honor remarkable achievements in cultivation, breeding, and product innovation. The competition showcased an impressive array of flowers and concentrates, all competing for the title of the world’s best product.

Being honored as the USA Winner for the Best Seed Bank award at the International Cannabis Awards is a remarkable achievement for Humboldt Seed Company. This highlights a strong commitment to quality and innovative seed breeding. For Humboldt, receiving this prestigious award signifies much more than a celebration; it reflects the company’s core values, hard work, and dedication to excellence within the cannabis industry.

For the nineteenth time, the Champions Cup showcased itself as the leading cannabis competition in the country and one of the most significant worldwide. The ceremony, held in the auditorium of Spannabis Barcelona during the World Cannabis Conference, celebrated the top growers across Europe. Returning to its roots, the competition featured only VIP judges in each category: Best Indica, Best Sativa, Best CBD, Best Hash, and Best Rosin.

Several outstanding winners were recognized throughout the Champions Cup for their top-shelf cannabis products. In the Best Hash category, The Powerpuff Farm won first place with its Danup. Loud took the top spot in Best CBD Flower with Legendary, while Dochazed’s Bask Triangle claimed top honors for Best Rosin. Perfect Tree’s Cherrymosa rose to the top for Best Sativa, and Selva Club shined with Banana Cooler, winning Best Indica.

Live Performances

Spannabis showcased remarkable performances throughout the three days. Roger’s Tribalian offered a mesmerizing fusion of tribal rhythms and contemporary soundscapes, inviting introspection through his hypnotic hand-pan melodies. At noon on Friday, Dia Val Div transformed the atmosphere with her progressive psy-ambient and slow trance journey, seamlessly blending dark and light elements that resonated deeply with the audience.

The energy on Saturday peaked with Jhana Beat’s electrifying set, where she skillfully combined diverse genres using a loop station to create real-time musical experiments. Delfina Dib then took the stage with her fusion of trap, rap, and afrobeat. As the festival progressed, acts like Mad Muasel and the Purple Rockets Collective warmed the audience for an impressive performance by Planters of the Trees, The Mendo Dope Boys!

Sunday’s event showcased an extraordinary lineup that captivated attendees from start to finish. The day kicked off with the dynamic duo, Singa Adri and Muskarina, delivering captivating reggae and soul vibes. Molly then transformed the atmosphere with her nu-skool breaks. The fusion of breaks and hip-hop by Indusk and Dopler FX kept the energy high, while DJ Rambla closed the day with an infectious energy that left everyone wanting more!

How Did This Year’s Spannabis Compare to Previous Editions?

The growing popularity of hemp and the movement toward cannabis legalization have reached a pivotal moment in Spain, particularly highlighted by Spannabis. This year, the event showcased overwhelming public support for legalization. The enthusiasm surrounding hemp and cannabis suggests that meaningful reforms are not just possible but imminent, positioning Spain as a potential leader in the European cannabis market.

“This year, the energy was on another level,” said Grow TV’s McLean. “Perhaps it was the bittersweet feeling of knowing this would be the last event in Barcelona, or maybe it was just the hash rosin influencing us—but everyone truly brought their A-game. From mind-blowing genetics to cutting-edge technology, it felt like stepping into a cannabis utopia.

Ultimately, Spannabis isn’t just about the location; it’s about the people, the community, and our shared love for the plant. No matter where this event occurs next, I’ll be there with my camera, capturing the excitement, meeting legends, and likely forgetting where I left my lighter. Spannabis Barcelona, you will be missed, but the sessions will never stop.”

Spannabis: Europe’s Ultimate Cannabis Expo?

The crowd was incredibly excited to learn about all aspects of the cannabis industry during the event. Thousands of enthusiastic growers gathered around the booth, creating an atmosphere where everyone felt truly in their element. We enjoyed connecting with fellow enthusiasts, listening to their stories, discussing their favorite strains, and learning from their experiences. It was incredible to witness the passion that everyone had for the industry!

The emphasis on sustainable and innovative wellness products indicates a bright future for the cannabis industry. As regulations evolve, particularly with Germany’s progressive approach, new opportunities arise for businesses and consumers. This shift reinforces the notion that the cannabis movement is gaining momentum across Europe.
